Race improvements and comments...
Oct 15 2007, 11:38 PM EDT
First and foremost - Me, my wife and my step son (52, 46 and 12 yrs old respectively) love this show and look forward to being entertained by it every year. It is, by far, the best reality show on the planet!

Pros and Improvements:
1 - It is a race that all ages can participate in.
2 - I think the prizes for the team arriving first at the final destination is a great idea. That way, if you do get eliminated in the coming weeks, at least you won something. Great idea TAR Producers.
3 - The show is a travelers Godsend! We not only watch the show for the game itself, but it gives us ideas for our next potential trip. I am sure other viewers are thinking the same thing. Keeping this in mind, I suggest promoting MORE local traveling (USA) along with international.
4 - New contestants rule! We love the new personalities that evolve from having new contestants. It’s the only way to go.
5 - You need more head games! TAR needs to create situations where the teams are forced to take sides. It makes the race so much more exciting.
Ex: Road blocks are great, but you need to have them more often….and with a twist. Try rewarding teams who use the road blocks (it encourages a little chaos between the teams). Also, give the people being blocked the option of reducing there time by doing some goofy chore or something funny….like, picking apples while using stilts or a good ole carnival dunking contest..
6- Have the contestants participate in Woodsmen’s Fest (be easy on them, but make it interesting). You know, throwing the axe in the stump or sawing wood or downing a tree on a can.

Cons:
1 - Please - No more All-Star races! They are SO boring and it is unfair to give a team who has won the million dollar prize a chance to win it again!
2 - Stop taking us through impoverish countries. I mean, Africa must have areas with breathtaking scenery and interesting history, myths and legends. That’s what viewers want to see.

Good point. I just think we can do without seeing the depressing areas of the world. :) 15  out of 22 found this valuable. Do you?

It is a shame that some viewers have a problem dealing with the site of impoverished countries in the show but this is a Reality TV show and poverty is a reality. DEAL WITH IT. 11  out of 26 found this valuable. Do you?

Why do you find it depressing. Why not find it educational and entertaining. The next show will be in Burkina Faso. Most 3rd World countries still have a rich class and good areas to live and visit. But Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the World. Let's see the show goes and start a new thread on it in the main board. 3  out of 20 found this valuable. Do you?

I don't find it "depressing." What is sad is that the subject of seeing poverty in the show has some people uncomfortable. Isn't that part of the learing process? To learn the good and bad. Rich and poor, prosperous and poverty. They go hand in hand even in the US. 11  out of 27 found this valuable. Do you?

IMO: TAR should be made up equally by these four components: scenery, culture, social awareness, and extremeness. It shouldn't focus only on one of those, but it should try to be balanced combination of each of those. 6  out of 19 found this valuable. Do you?

Let's try not to lose focus here. This is a television program that entertains us! I'm sure TAR is not trying to push any "feed the world" campaign on it's viewers. It's just entertainment! :) Let it go! When I am watching the show, I just don't care to see the trails of Garbage on the way to the next stop. The U.S. has areas that will shock you, but you don't see TAR producers exploiting them on the show, do you? No, you don't. Same should go for the other countries.

Sometimes, I feel people in this world think Americans are just rich, selfish, self-centered, Fat Cats who don't care about supporting all the under-developed countries on this planet. Well, believe it or not, we are trying to assist many other countries. WE DO CARE! Maybe most of the rich think of only of themselves (so do the rich in the other countries), but most of the U.S. middle and lower class do care about others in this world....and do support them.

We have our own problems at home....like New Orleans. It's still a disaster area down there. And it's not just New Orleans that is suffering. It is most of Mississippi, Louisiana, and parts of Florida. I've been there and I have done my part to support the economy there. They still desperately need assistance. I do my part and I contribute to charities every year! So, if I want to watch television - just for entertainment, then I have the right to do so. I earned it! Thank you very much!

Just remember, probably people are still entertained by watching impoverished areas. Don't be so selfish, more people watch the show and probably like to see some social awareness in the show, I do. :)

What's with you and Lunachan? I can't believe you both agree that watching impoverished areas of the world is entertaining! That is sick! What are you, throw-backs from the Roman era -- where they enslaved the poor to fight in the coliseum....and ultimately die for there entertainment? That's basically what you are saying when you say, "probably people are still entertained by watching impoverished areas." Good Lord, you are sick individuals. Maybe you both should consider joining join the Peace Corps or any organization that assists the impoverished. Maybe then you might changed your mind about watching them for your entertainment. Remember, I went to Mississippi and New Orleans and donated my time and spent money there to help there economy. What have you done lately to make this world a better place....besides sitting in front of a computer, reading and writing in chat rooms? If you are going to talk-the-talk, then you better walk-the-walk!

Not really. Why would it? Just because you are from a third world country doesn't mean you aren't sitting in front of computer doing chat rooms every day.....and it doesn't mean you are poor either. You think only third world countries have poor people? So do the the 'so called" rich countries....and I lot of them. I'm doing my part in my country. How about you doing something in yours? Good luck. 9  out of 10 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree, especially with the cons. The countries they stop at have beautiful cities that are always overlooked. It's like going to Italy now and making the racers go through the cities affected by the garbage being refused to be picked up by the mob. At least thats what I heard. 8  out of 9 found this valuable. Do you?

Or Europe having their own Amazing race, don't know if they do but regardless, it's like them going to skid row in down town LA and making racers enjoy the scenary or something.

India has many beautiful cities, stop with the dirty trains and the molesting hands already.
Other than that Amazing race is thrilling.

No matter how much you bitch at me there will almost always be an impoverished country on the itinerary. If you can't handle it then CHANGE THE CHANNEL. Is that so hard to do?

I agree with you. We are watching the show solely for entertainment. That's it. The last race was pretty cool! I was hoping Ron and Christine would win it, but, all 3 teams were deserving. Can't wait for the next race!!!
