Seeing the departing times (gaps) for the teams this week really illustrate what happened to Oswald and Danny last week. It was hard to tell last week how much opportunity they had (if any) to really make up that "marked for elimination" 30 minute penalty. It looked like they might not have had a whole lot of opportunity to and that perhaps their only realistic chance to survive and make the final 3 was to win the leg so they didn't have the penalty.

That was certainly the view of the person who put in the "they got screwed" comment. Complaining that the way the leg was constructed there wasn't any real opportunity for them to make up the time and survive. Now having seen the departure times (and therefore we know the arrival times and gaps) they had a huge opportunity to make up the time.

Dustin and Kandice beat Eric and Danille to the pit stop by more than an hour (about an 67 minutes I think) and D&K beat Charla and Mirna by more than an hour and a half and presumeably Oswald and Danny by something perhaps in the 2 hour range.

This means had Oswald and Danny run just a "pretty good" leg and came in 30 minutes behind the Blondes, they would have waited out their 30 minute elimination penalty and STILL came in 2nd. They could have come in an hour behind the Blondes and still survived, since Charla and Mirna came in more than an hour and a half behind the Blondes.

So as it turns out Oswald and Danny actually had back to back horrible legs and it wasn't the construction of the leg at all that contributed to them not making the Final 3. 18  out of 22 found this valuable. Do you?
