Taiwan is an island off the coast of Chinese mainland and the official name is Republic of China, which the Chinese mainland's official name is People's Republic of China.

The Chinese mainland ended its Qing rule in 1912 and established a republic on that year, During the Chinese Civil War, communists invaded the mainland and the Chinese government moved to Taiwan.
