Top Sights: Quito
Quito, itself, is a sight to see. The city is nestled in a in a valley between the Volcano Pichincha and the canyon of the river Machángara. At night, Quito is a pool of lights against the darkness of the forested mountains and volcanoes that surround it.
Quito's Old Town: Dozens of museums, shops and cafes and restaurants are in the Old Town. Modern Quito is a city divided into two halves: Old Town and New City. The Old City is much like it was at the end of the colonial period. However, the New City has no marks of its colonial past. New Quito is bustling with crowds and filled with office buildings. Both are worth visiting. 
La Mitad del Mundo - Spanish for "middle of the world," this is a monument dedicated to where the equator resides. The area is about 10 kilometers north of Quito. The grounds have the Museo Ethnográfico Mitad del Mundo.The monument at la Mitad del Mundo is topped by a five ton globe, and inside the museum are Ecuadorian exhibits. It is in this museum one can perform experiments only possible on the equatorial line. 
Teleferico - Cable cars take you up to approximately 13,451 feet in the air. Once you are above the city, you get the most spectacular view of Quito and the Andes. There's even an oxygen bar at the top if you are feeling a little light headed. 
Cotopaxi: The country's second largest active volcano. There have been more than 50 eruptions since 1738. The main danger of an eruption is the flow of ice from the volcano's glacier. Otavalo: This famous market town 2 hours by bus or taxi from Quito is well worth a visit.
