The Amazing Race: How to read the signs - Learn about the races signs!

Other Rules

Pit Stops:
Teams check into a location at the end of a leg or a race called a pit stop where they can eat, sleep, and mingle with the other teams. Once teams check in they have a limited amount of time, usually 12 hours, to rest before the next leg of the race. There have been exceptions to this in previous seasons, due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.

Money:
Teams have been given money at the start of each leg of the race. The range of money can go from 0 to more than $100 U.S.

Booking Flights:
Teams are given a credit card before the race to buy tickets to their next destination. They must purchase economy tickets; however, they may be freely upgraded to business class if allowed by the airline.

The Mat (at the Pit Stop):
The Mat is the sign of the pit stop for each leg of the race with a picture of the world along with red, yellow, and black stripes.

Non-Elimination Penalty:
From Season 1 to 4, there is no penalty when teams are saved by a Non-Elimination Leg. From Season 5 to 9, the penalty for non-elimination is that they have to give up all their money they have accumulated throughout the Race and will receive no money on the following Leg. However, from Seasons 7 to 9, teams were also stripped of all of their money and they have to give up all their possession (E.g. Bagpack). From season 12, the penalty is a Speed Bump, an extra task that only they have to complete on the following Leg.

Can they use a compass to help them navigate? The Globetrotters used one that is in a watch.

Notready2race Begging or Bartering? 14 Apr 20 2009, 12:31 PM EDT by Notready2race

I'm wondering how others feel about the big penalty given to the two brothers for bartering with their cab driver when they ran out of cash? I didn't know there was a rule against that. Why is that not allowed?

The two sisters begged for free rides, apparently using the presence of the videographer as leverage. That's allowable, according to the rules but WHY? In my opinion, it shows more resourcefulness and concern for the local person to barter than it does to beg.
