Rule ImprovementsThis is a featured page

This may be already posted but we don't have time to read all the posts so here goes... When a team reaches an airport/train station etc. and they purchase a ticket, their time ahead / behind other teams should be recorded and stopped and then carried over to their start time at next destination. The whole catching up by default because you get on the same plane thing sucks. The time should be carried throughout the entire game.
What about a relay aspect to the race? Start with teams of 4, but with only two racing at a time. After a couple of legs, one team member must be replaced by another. In the end the two final players for a team would be completely different from those that started the race. The order of players should be deatermined before the race begins.
The one thing that really bugs me is that the teams are allowed to have an outsider go in the taxi with them and lead them to the destination, I would like CBS to not allow this, teams can stop and ask directions as much as they want but not accompany them
I love the Amazing Race!! Can't wait for the next season! I suggest they never have the last place team lose all of their money in a non-elimination leg. How terrible is it that racers hoping to win a million dollars are begging for money from people? How greedy does that make them seem to the rest of the world. The time penalty is a great idea. Reduce or get rid of fast forwards. Total strangers racing together would be interesting; but don't split up existing teams. No celebrities please!! Also, no more following taxis or having someone tag along.
What about an "Extreme" edition? I am finding that the challenges are getting easier, and that the racers seem to be having an easier time navigating where they are going! Also, the weather seems to always co-operate. Having been trapped in an Internet cafe during a monsoon one time, and delayed at airports for other weather events, I think that if the route was planned to encounter such set backs, it would be memorable!
Also, visiting countries off-the-beaten path would add interest, although I know some pose severe "health-risks" so to speak.
AND, imagine if instead of a road block sending you to different parts of the same city, imagine if it sent you to different countries to complete??? Sort of a "choose your own adventure" type twist - with all teams meeting up at the pit stops.
AND, of course, allowing people from other countries (IE. Canada) will add friendly competition!
All, I appreciate many of the ideas here. Personally, I am not a fan of the "show more scenery" school, or of the educators race. I love the travel aspect of the show, and seeing interesting places is part of the appeal, but the characters and their interaction are the major appeal of the show - seeing how people face the race. Invariably, the winners are 2 people who can get along under the stress of the show. Now, to improve this show:

  1. CBS must do something about the transportation equalizer. It is unfair that teams with huge leads during a leg lose them at an airport. It would not be hard to let teams keep their leads at the destination airport, up to a certain point. If team A arrives at the airport 30 minutes ahead of team B, they ought to be rewarded when they get to their final destination by keeping that lead. Have a checkpoint at the airport and the teams check-in, get time stamps and, if they end up on the same flights, they must depart the arrival airport at the same interval. If they take different flights - there is no interval - this would protect the leaders and force teams to take some chances on close connections, and not just take the same flights, as they have become wont to do. To keep production costs down, and keep all the teams relatively close, you could decide to set a maximum time for all trailing teams to leave - say 2, 3, or 4 hours after the first place team. It would be really simple to manage this.
  2. I agree with others that the first leg should be non-elimination. It would give viewers a chance to bond with that team, and save an otherwise strong team from fluke elimination (although I don't think I've seen that happen yet).
  3. Challenges MUST get harder! They have really become lame, and even in All-Stars they were not difficult.
  4. The final race to the finish line is also lame, but, I think if you adopted rule 1 above, it would go a long way to making it more meaningful. A severe challenge could be used to give an equalizer opportunity.
  5. I like the hidden free pass, versus perhaps a fast forward. But, if the producers decide to go that route, the process to get a free pass has to be so difficult it places the team at risk of finishing last in that leg, and, of course, that pass will not be usable on the leg it is obtained!
i think that those teams that take book taxi should be penalize
the team get yield twice so get more money than that team that yield them.
TAR should put intersection before detour task and 4 teams must go together and as well as both team must agree to U-turn other two teams. This will be fun.
Just a thought. Maybe they could have an equal/limited number of each detour?
For example, if there are 10 teams, they might limit only 5 teams can do each of the detours. (There seems to be times where you would have the majority of the people doing one task, and one or none of the teams doing the other) If there are an odd number of teams, then maybe they could do: number of teams divided by 2 rounded up. eg. 7 teams, 4 of each detour.
This way, if teams go for the detour they want (and possibly the majority of the teams want) and find out that the number of people doing that detour is full, then they would have to switch detours.
Local Customs, BabyOne of the things we who enjoy TAR like is that it takes us to places where we get to observe the local customs, and, for the racers, they get to participate in them. I am sorry that some find other cultures crude, or cruel, or beneath the West (the West being so enlightened) or disgusting. Guess what, there is a whole great big world out there that doesn't play by the same societal rules as us (though, I'm not sure transporting a live chicken in a bag, or a goat in a basket strapped to a bike, is that unusual, even in the United States).

On the "Race Improvements" front, I liked the U-turn. Let's hope it replaces the stupid Yield.
I am not a terribly big Survivor fan, but what about a season with a combination of the two shows? "The Amazing Race--Global Survivor." The top two or three teams could be safe from elimination, while the remaining teams have to vote to eliminate one of themselves. In the event of a tie, the latter of the two teams to arrive at the pit stop would be eliminated.
I too was hoping that Charla and Mirna would come in first place. I feel that they had an amazing chance to win if they would not have encountered the wait for the helicopter, but could have taken it upon their arrival at the heliport. At least they would have had a greater lead on the other two teams for the beach race. It really didn't matter who made the final three, because planners should have taken everyone's capabilities into consideration from the start. Why add the wait time at the very end of the show, it really took away from the excitement of who maybe could have won. Too bad there isn't an audience vote as to who could win a bonus million like Survivor did and Rupert won.
I think the organizers of this race should make the "life or death" claim a rule breaker. I mean duh? we have people being called out for using a yield or using strategy against their competition in a "game". That is far different from using the life or death claim for a game, such as Charla and Mirna did every single chance they got. They are so sad that they cant even see how completely deplorable that is.
If there is a way to cut down on the racers rudeness to the people in the countries they are visiting that would be great. In some of the previous races there were issues when paying taxi drivers and begging people for money. I also would like to see more twists and turns like Fast Forwards, Intersections and Roadblocks. Love the show!!
I like the Yield the best, cause you barely know what's gonna happen. It's exciting knowing a team can be held back for an hour. I can't wait for this season's Yield...
POINT VALUE SYSTEM

It would be nice if the Race had points given to each team at each Pit Stop.

While the last team still gets eliminated on each leg (except for the non-elimination ones), those remaining should get some points. The last team to arrive on a non-elimination. leg should get no points, however. It should already be seen as a "privilege" for them to stay on--not getting any point would be like some kind of "penalty."

At the end of the Race, whoever gets the most points SHOULD be the winner & should deservedly get the $1 million! Consistency should be rewarded! It shows how strong a team really is. As it is now, many Undeserving teams have won the prize money just because they reached the final Pit Stop first. SO UNFAIR! A LESS deserving team can win the BIG bucks on a fluke, while some other MORE deserving team that had won many legs bite the dust!

(The following are some examples of this Unfairness.)
Before the FINAL Leg,
# of Legs Teams Won:

  • Most recently, the winners of TAR-Asia never won a single leg before the final one!
  • TAR 2
    Winners, Chris & Alex = 2
    2nd Place, Tara & Wil = 3
    4th Place, Oswald & Danny = 3 (in only 11 legs)
(Teams' # of wins above include a FF.)
  • TAR 3Winners, Flo & Zach = 1
    2nd Place, Teri & Ian = 3
    3rd Place, Ken & Gerard = 3
    4th Place, Derek & Drew = 4 (in only 11 legs)
(Teams' # of wins above include a FF.)
  • TAR 4
    Winners, Reichen & Chip = 1
    3rd Place, David & Jeff = 4
    5th Place, Millie & Chuck = 2 (in only 9 legs)
(Teams' # of wins above, except D&J's, include a FF.)
  • TAR 5
    Winners, Chip & Kim = 3
    2nd Place, Colin & Christie = 6
3rd Place, Brandon & Nicole = 2 (had the same avg. as C&K)
(Of the 3 teams, only C&C took a FF.)
  • TAR 6Winners, Freddy & Kendra = 1
    2nd Place, Kris & Jon = 4
  • 3rd Place, Adam & Rebecca = 1
  • 4th Place, Hayden & Aaron = 4 (in only 11 legs)
(No team above took a FF.)
  • TAR 7
    Winners, Uchenna & Joyce = 2
    2nd Place, Rob & Amber = 5
(Of the 2 teams, only U&J took a FF.)
  • TAR 8
    Winners, Linzes = 1
    2nd Place, Bransens = 3
    4th Place, Godlewskis = 3 (in only 10 legs)
    5th Place, Paolos = 2 (in only 8 legs)
(Sorry, don't have detailed info on this Season.)
  • TAR 9
    Winners, BJ & Tyler = 4
    2nd Place, Eric & Jeremy = 5
(Teams' # of wins above include a FF.)
  • TAR 10
    3rd Place, Lyn & Karlyn = 0 (didn't deserve to be 3rd!)
    4th Place, Dustin & Kandice = 2 (in only 11 legs)
    5th Place, Erwin & Godwin = 1 (in only 9 legs)
    6th Place, David & Mary = 1 (in only 8 legs)
    7th Place, Peter & Sarah, = 2 (in only 6 legs)
(Sorry, I don't have FF info on this Season.)

Of course, more "FF's" and "Yields" should be implemented so that they can be incentives for other teams and give them a chance to catch up. With the possibility of catching up, none will just easily "throw in the towel" because teams that are behind can recover. This should constantly STIR the pot, not allowing 1 or 2 teams to dominate, or, it would be a VERY BORING Race. This will, then, make for a MORE intense Race! Right now, teams are just interested in making it to the mat first at each leg due to whatever prize they might get, or, trying not to be last or they might get eliminated. For every team in between, there's NO THRILL!!! But, if there are points to be gained for each placement, all teams will RACE to the mat each time since points are cumulative.
At the end of the Race, in case there's a TIE, a challenge can be performed just between the teams concerned. Something like what they did before getting to the Final Pit Stop on TAR 8--Fam. Ed. (puzzle map of Central & North Amer.) and TAR 9 (other countries' flags arranged in order of visit). Or, that final RB on TAR 3 where they had to arrange the animal heads on the totem poles according to when they were encountered on the Race. Some challenge where their memory is tested (they don't necessarily have to have a high IQ) -- something relevant to the Race, itself. This way, teams will be more observant of their surroundings & appreciate the places they visit more.
New Twist to Intersection!

Have eliminated teams join up with teams still racing. The Catch: The eliminated teams pick who they work with, and they can either help or hinder the team, but must be with them.
The intersection twist is good, but to put a FF (one of only two I might add) along with it? I mean, come on, that's not right, maybe if the FF was on the race, but to get it, they would first have to complete a task and then go head to head with their partners for it, and the losers having to go back and do the detour or task, on their own? Maybe?
Non-Elimination leg:
A new non-elimination leg should be added. Instead of starting the next leg without money (as past seasons) or just having a 30 minute penalty (as the current season), the last two teams arriving should be penalized. The two team's members should have to split from each other, form two new teams using the four people. They should work one "timed" task in this configuration, then rejoin their original team and work another timed task. Before beginning the second task or even knowing their time, teams will have to decide who from their original team will "carry" their time with them to the second task. Once they finish the second task, the team who took the longest combined time to complete the tasks should be marked for elimination and suffer a 30 minute penalty. This twist will pit two team members against each other at least for one task. If either team is confident enough in themselves one of the members can sabotage their efforts during the first task and possibly hamper the other teams effort to beat the 30 minute penalty.
No more marked for elimination... it doesn't make sense and doesn't give the team all the benefits that come with a non elimination leg. No more unlimited fast forwards
There should be a rule called; UPLOAD. This will be placed before a roadblock, the teams that uses the upload will be assisting another team.

For example, Mary & Jane uses the upload on James & Peter, M & J must also specifically indicate which team they want J & P to ''help'' complete the roadblock. If M & J wants J & P to complete the roadblock for Nick & Sarah, they must do so. This means that either James or Peter have to do the roadblock for Nick & Sarah too, they will have to complete the Roadbloack 2 times before getting their next clue. Nick & Sarah can skip the roadblock and proceed on with their next task. Mary & Jane have just uploaded more stress on James & Peter. :D

Well, that's my idea...might be a little confusing, but if you read hard enough, you will definitely understand. :D
- First of all i love the idea of a double elimination at the end of the intersection. It would make it a more interesting twist as they would spend more time intersected and would be more reliant on the team they are paired with. At the moment i wouldn't call the intersection the greatest twist, but with this tweaking it would make it must more interesting. Also no Fast Forward on the intersection leg, and restore the one FF per team policy.
More Yields and Fast Forwards please.
I think there should be a twist similar in usage to the intersection, called a 'T Junction' or something, where instead of two teams joining, the two members of each team are split up and then have to head in separate directions to complete separate tasks. Eventually after a couple of tasks each they have to head to a 'merge point' where they have to rejoin before they continue. This could weed out teams where only one team member is good at racing and the other just does their fill of roadblocks and that's it. Also for teams like Charla and Mirna they could do it (like a detour) that one route has 'brawn' tasks and the other has 'brain' tasks or something of the sort. It's almost an extended roadblock except for each team-member has to do their individual tasks at the same time. And it could be great to see one team member finish all of their tasks and then have to wait at the merge point for their partner, which while similar to the effects of not participating in a roadblock, that person would have no idea where their teammate is or how many tasks they have completed.
Have something that acts as the 'hidden immunity idol' or the 'royal pardon'. One team 'acquires' a 'golden pass' which would allow the team to skip a whole leg and check out of the following pit-stop equal with the first team. They would have to present the pass at the start of the leg they wished to use it on, and they would be flown directly to the next pit-stop. They wouldn't have to check in but would just rejoin the race on the following leg. They could make a rule that it cannot be used on the last leg. The task in which they acquire it could be something which is more time consuming, so they can attempt it with the chance of getting the pass, but only one team gets it for the whole race. It could be acquired similar to how fast forwards are acquired.
I think that you should do away with the non elimination races and instead replace the eliminated team with a team that was previously eliminated.
How about a "wild card" before the final 4? Have all the eliminated teams come back and race against the team currently in the 4th spot for 1 leg. The winner gets the last spot in the final 4.
The Race Should Think About Adding this New Element, it would be a good compliment to the U-turn:

Instant Replay:

When teams reach this roadblock, they will discover a new twist in the game.

Teams may only exercise their instant replay power once, so they must decide when it is most advantageous to use it.

"You may force both members of any trailing team to complete this specific roadblock. If either member fails to finish the roadblock, both members will be assigned a 4 hour penalty. The chosen team will only receive the next clue when both members have completed the task."

For that team, this roadblock will not count towards either member’s total roadblock quota.
this is for non-elimination legs:
teams that come in last we be strip with all the money + bags, mark for elimination leg, and the speed bump.
The producers should institute a "Leap of Faith" stunt similar to a Fast Forward. Whichever team successfully completes this can go directly to the pit stop after the existing leg, which may produce a dominant lead in the game.

I think the Fast Forward needs to be done away with. Instead, all teams could get a "Short Cut" that they could use to skip only one detour or roadblock during the race. They could only use it once, but they could use it on any task. That way teams don't lose because they couldn't do one task. And it adds more strategy, the way the Fast Forward was before they reduced the number of them. An added bonus is that the "Short Cut" term fits better with all of the new car racing terms, e.g.; Speed Bump, U-Turn, Pit stop. (Of course you couldn't use it on the last leg of the race.)
I like the penalty where they take their stuff and money. The Speed Bump is cool as well. I think they should be combined into one penalty. No more "Marked for Elimination". It's a horrible penalty.
How about another new element for teams who don't want to do Roadblocks? Because of the one-man rule?

'Deviation'
Teams who do not wish to complete the Roadblock may choose to use this alternative. Only one team may use each Deviation and each team may only use one in the entire race. The team that chooses this may avoid doing the Roadblock and complete a specific task (may be done by both members) to receive their next clue. Once chosen, there is no turning back. If not chosen, any team may use the Deviation halfway through the Roadblock, provided it was not taken by any other team.
For a non-elimiantion:A Team had to complete a speedbump
For roadblock: Each member should do the same number of roadblocks (not counting fast-forwards)
For a detour: Teams should be able to switch between detours as much as they want
For a fast-forward: If there was to be more then 5 fast-forwards, teams should be allowed to use the fast-forward twice. If there are less then 5 fast-forwards, teams should only be allowed to use it once.
For a Yield/U-Turn: U-Turns should be used more...A Team should only be allowed to use it once per race.
For an intersection: If there are two intersections: A Team may only pair up with one team once.
Fenwicky
not enough twists! My suggestions:
1) Add another u-turn or fast forward to avoid boring legs when there are only four or five left when the viewers know it is a non-elim
2) When the first five teams get eliminated, they should be on the course so that when the teams reach that point, they vote for the team that they want to rejoin the race. When all the teams have voted, they continue the race. When the last team has voted the racers that have the most votes rejoin the race and are now in last place.
3) Have 12 teams instead of 11!
4) Have 12 or 13 legs instead of 11!
5) A double length leg
6) Intersection on leg 1 with a double elim (12 teams)
7) Bring back the yield and use a rule which means that a team can only use one U-turn OR Yield, so if Team A uses the U-turn they now cannot use the yield either. Having 2 U-turns and Yields on a race
other ideas that i support
8) I like the idea of having foreign people on the show who speak english: Austrailian, new zealand, UK,Canada and even people from the asian version of the race taking part in the US version.
9) I also like the idea of having the eliminated teams intersect with racing teams; but the teams racing should really choose.
10) The idea of 'deviation' that if a team finds a task too hard they can make it easier only once
11) the idea of making both members of a team do the roadblock without them having to do it. called 'upload' or 'instant replay'
To possibly sweeten the deal as far as the 1st place pit stop rewards are concerned, why not offer other prizes than just nice getaways to Hong Kong, Fiji, Virgin Islands, etc., such as: a living room ensemble, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture, barrel sauna, Beachcomber hot tub, pool tables, and so forth because I think it's getting monotonous seeing 1st place teams get rewarded with just trips. Award something else for once!
Have some new challenges. Look at TAR 13 Leg 6: Get into Delhi
Moonlightmotors: ROADBLOCK
Ambassador Hotel: DETOUR
Bahaí House: PITSTOP

Cooky, isn´t it? Have something like a FREEWAY task, like a FF, except the first team who completes it, gets a 30min time credit at the pitstop. Once completed, teams get a token, signifying that they have completed the task, and then must continue the leg. At the pitstop, teams must show this token to Phil to get the credit. If they lose the token or, in any way, are unable to show Phil the token, the FREEWAY credit will not be given.
Have a Rewind, at the end of some ROADBLOCKS. Like a U-TURN, except the team who has been rewinded must do the ROADBLOCK again, this time, with the OTHER person doing the task.
Make the Fast Forward a risk! If the Fast Forward tasks are harder, it will be more of a challenge to make it to first place. If there is a really challenging Fast Forward, they must complete it to skip all tasks. However if they fail, they must do the detour with only one team member participating. The other teammate has to do the other detour task. That would make the race a lot more exciting and challenging.

-survivormaniac123456
Increase the number of Fast Forwards! I think it's looking a little drab with just one Fast Forward available for any team to claim. The number can be elevated to 10 Fast Forwards, and I think that a team who finds them should be allowed to use as many of their 10 Fast Forwards as possible to maintain a great advantage over opposing teams.
I'd like to watch the Super-Legs again, think about it with a super-leg the race becomes more intense, and it would be great in order to cover larger countries (like Brazil, Russia, Australia or Canada) or some littles countries next to another country like the Baltic Republics or the UK and its four countries (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)
they should go back to the old fast-forward system where they have many (like 10) and each team can use it only once on the race. It should be hard to get.
I think for non elimination leg they should combined all three things stripped with all money, mark for elimination & do speedbump.
I thinkTAR RULE SHOULD APPLY THIS RULE & including a penalty about a team that touch clue box first and other team should wait
example : should have been a penalty for Kisha & Jen because they should have waited for their turn (hanlam84)
I think the Non Elimination penalty should be this:
1.Give up your backpack for 1 leg
2.Not get any money at the start of the next leg
3. Do the Speedbump
The Yield should be brought back, same with the Fast Forwards(2 each). Same rules apply for both. Last Place should once again result in being marked for elimination as in TAR 10 and TAR All-Stars. Also teams should have to DRIVE THEMSELVES more often, so good teams don't get screwed over by bad taxi drivers and bad teams( ex: Flo and Zach) don't get lucky and find the first taxi. Also you should be allowed to trade personal items to settle a taxi bill(as Andrew & Dan and Mark & Michael did).
They should change the Yield, so that the team who gets yielded has to perform an extra task that only they perform, and has to complete it before continuing the race. I think this would be far more interesting than a 30 minute penalty.
My idea for a new aspect in TAR is called a "Traffic Jam". They would have about 3 to 5 of them hidden in the race. It works just like a "Yield" but when teams come up to it, The race can't continue until all other teams have caught up to that point in the race. That way it would give teams that either missed a flight or got lost because of bad direction or a bad taxi driver a fighting chance, but it also means that teams that have a substantial lead could have a possibility of losing it.

don't penalize the team when it is not their fault if the tires deflate on their car, or if something else happens that is not their fault.
