During Christmas break of 04-05, my family and I travelled to India. My grandfather immigrated to the US from India almost 50 years ago and it was his dream to bring his entire family back home. All of us were there for that trip, we met all our cousins and aunts and uncles while in the South. Then we went back up north to Delhi and the Taj Mahal. I was so excited when the Race went to India because I saw so many familiar sites and know what the Racers felt if it was their first time. If you ever get the chance, GO TO INDIA!!! It is an amazing trip.

I traveled to Australia last summer as a student ambassador with 25 other students! It was incredible. We went to the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Olympic Park, we rode on a cruise ship across the Sydney waters, we went to the Sydney aquarium, we bought opal jewelry for our families with big discounts, we went to the New Parliament House in Canberra, we went to the War Memorial Museum in Canberra, we went to the Australian Institute of Sport, we went to a sheep farm, then we flew to Darwin where we went to a park with over 1,000 crocodiles, we went to the Parliament House in Darwin, we went to Kakadu National Park, we flew in private jet planes over that park, we went to Litchfield National Park where we saw giant termite mounds, we saw lots of waterfalls there as well, we went to Cairns after that where we went to a rain forest, we got to hold a Koala, feed kangaroos and wallabies, we rode on an World War 2 across the rain forest, we threw boomerangs, we met REAL Aborigines, we did lots of shopping in Cairns, we stayed with awesome families there too for our home stays, we went to the Great Barrier Reef where we snorkeled, and we went to Fitzroy Island where we hiked to the top of the island and kayaked.
If you are considering going to Australia, you will not regret it!

I have been to Germany, Austria, Italy and will be traveling to Africa to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro this summer.. But my travels can't even compare to my husband who has been to Hong Kong, India, Germany, Austria, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Canada. He has heli-skied in the Himalayas, skied in U.S., Canada, Austria & Germany. But the most amazing part of his travels is that he has done all of this in a wheelchair as he is a paraplegic since a 1985 auto accident. He was the first mono-skier to put tracks in the Himalayas. While he will not be making my trip with me this summer, he certainly has inspired and encouraged me to make this trip for my 50th birthday. He has taught me that there is so much out there that the world has to offer in not only the beautiful country you see but the wonderful people you get to experience. I only wish everyone had this opportunity.

I had never been outside of North America in my 21 years of living. November 2006 I had my chance. So i took the leap. I traveled for 13 hours by plane to the beautiful land of Australia. Upon arival in Australia i finally get to meet my now fiance face to face for the first time in over 8 years of being internet pen pals. The first day i made my way over the Harbour Bridge to the Sydney Opera House. The city is beautiful. I spent the weekend camping with his church then went on a 5 day road tirp across New South Wales to meet his family and friends. I also got to venture across beautiful country side and through the great divide. Small note about the great divide... if you are driving through it follow the speed limit signs they are there for a reason. Taking the curves at a higher speed will end in disaster. This is from observation not personal experience. If anyone ever has a chance to visit Sydney and Australia I highly recomend it. I will be moving there after My soon to be husband and I save some money and get settled in out marriage. The wedding date is set for July 14th 2007!

Been to several of the places in the race this year -- even river rafted on the Petrohue. Many excellent photos at http://www.pbase.com/faerie_39/travel ... under Patagonia and Eastern Europe. For Chile and Argentina, there is a slideshow video ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RIQtMxUePc Chile is jaw dropping gorgeous and its too bad TAR doesn't show more of the locale.

I lived in Spain for a year and was chagrined that TAR didn't visit there really until last season. I know that in one of the earlier seasons they crossed over a small portion of it at night from Portugal to catch a ferry to Morocco, but you couldn't see anything. Barcelona is a great city but there is so much more of Spain to see!! The other country that they've been able to avoid, for some reason, is Ireland. It is the only English-speaking country that they've ignored. Considering Ireland's well-earned reputation for confusing directions, I would think that it would be an ideal destination to send people. I've visited there and the people couldn't be nicer.

I have visited Phuket before and after the 2004 tsunami. the place is better than ever. The people are wonderful and the nightlife great. There are a lot of choices interms of accomodations from expensive to very cheap. If anyone has the nerve, they can try bungy jumping or karting near Patong Beach. I did bungy jump twice and I don't recommend it for the faint of heart.

There's a spot in the Dells where balls roll up hill, you stand crooked on flat ground, the rules of physics doesn't seem to apply here. Also, the circus is a few miles down the road, they could do a road block there. Maybe even have the pit stop at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee.

I'm in Japan studying Japanese for a year. I certainly hope the race comes back here, I can't believe they've only been here once in 10 seasons! It's such a culturally diverse and interesting country that you could do an entire season here. Tokyo itself has at least a few episodes worth of nice locations, then there's Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Hokkaido and Okinawa... I can only assume it was a visa issue (Japan after all being one of the (if not the) toughest countries in the world on immigration and working visas.
Anyway, I'd love to catch a team come running down the streets of Tokyo this summer. :D |

Me again! Oh yeah! I forgot to mention one other thing; it's about South Korean merchants and their stores! Great stuff to buy from the various stores and shops at the many different markets scattered all over Seoul! The one thing you all need to remember whenever you get there and shop at these stores is that these merchants are notorious at trying to out-bargain you on prices even on the smallest item! It's a lot of fun to try to bargain with them, but you need to have a good head on you when you try this. Some of them will stick to their prices no matter how hard you bargain with them! Believe me, I know!! Been there, done that!!! You'll also be surprised at the amount of American items and products that you'll see on Korean store shelves outside the military base PXs. They love American products! They will also take US dollars as well as the Korean won when you buy things. Always check the exchange on the amount of Korean won to the dollar every couple of days or so because the amount will change almost on a daily basis depending on the economy. That's it from me! If and when you go to South Korea, remember to enjoy being there and enjoy the experience! Have fun!!

Went to Seoul, South Korea, back in 1973 when my dad (US Army, retired now) got orders and was able to bring the family over there for 2 years. I got there a few months later due to a commitment to finishing up my 2nd year of college and stayed until August, 1974. South Korea was an amazing country to live in! The S. Koreans were very friendly, gracious, and helpful. They are great with hospitality and very hard workers in their various jobs that they do every day. The countryside is just awesome to see, and this country has over 5,000 years of history to read about and see in their museums and buildings. I had more fun working with them in a couple of summer jobs and going on field trips to various places in and around Seoul. I learned about their customs and traditions, and even learned enough of the Korean language to get around in those crazy "kimchi" cabs! Their cab drivers are amazing when it comes to getting around Seoul, and their driving records are remarkable in that their accident rates are so low! Riding a train from Seoul to Jesus Abbey in northern S. Korea was a real experience, and I enjoyed those train rides a lot! I am recommending to anyone that is interested in South Korea to go there in person to experience the people, places, and traditions of this great country. Have fun when you get there!
