| This was a very physical leg with lots of zip-line fun, grueling activity and inept row-boating. The leg started very early at 1AM in Lithuania as TK/Rachel opened their clue directing them to fly to Dubrovnik, Croatia. Airport services did not open up until later in the morning so all teams quickly bunched up at the Vilnius airport. The first third of the episode was another drawn-out AR ticket-purchasing drama and not really worth going into. Some teams tried to use a travel agent and others waited for the Czech airlines office to open. In the end, NatenniferTM, the Goths and Ron/Christina caught a 6:25AM flight on Lot Polish that arrived in Dubrovnik at 11:20 that morning. TK/Rachel and Nick/Don actually departed on a slightly earlier 6AM flight via Prague but missed the connecting flight due to delays and then caught separate flights later in the afternoon. Finally, Azaria and Hendekea had a series of ticket purchasing problems – and a running argument featuring some amazing patriarchal nonsense from Azaria - ending with the error of them being issued business class tickets on the 6:25 flight. They did not realize this until checking in and of course such tickets could not be used due to the standard AR rule of requiring Economy class travel only. They quickly returned to the agent but were unable to resolve this in time for the flight and were stuck in Vilnius. They were forced to arrange flights later in the day arriving last in Dubrovnik. The first flight arrived on a gorgeous, sunny morning in Dubrovnik and the three teams (Natennifer, Goths and Ron/Chris) had to get taxis to the waterfront to find the clue box along the harbor by the fort of St Lawrence. The other two teams arrived first at the harbor but Ron and Christina were the first to actually find the clue box – often a critical and decisive task on the AR. The clue was revealed to be a Roadblock. One team member had to identify one of 8 breadbox-sized stones – among a pile of 150 odd stones - that would correctly fit into gaps in the city wall. A mason working on the wall repair would confirm that the stone was correctly placed and provide the next clue. These were somewhat heavy stones and Ron struggled a bit but he quickly found a correct stone and the team moved on. The next clue instructed the teams to climb to the rooftop of nearby Fort St Lawrence and take a tandem side-by-side zip line across the harbor to the roof of another fort (Fort Borkar) on the far side. Ron and Christina were quickly suited up and screaming their way across the harbor attracting the attention of Natennifer and the Goths who were just then finding the first clue box. Ron and Christina got the next clue on top of Fort Bokar revealing a Detour. The two choices were “Long and Short” or “Short and Long”. These basically described two alternative routes to the next clue box located in a plaza around the far side of the harbor. Short and Long required the teams to rappel down the side of Fort Borkar, walk around a section of the city wall and then climb to the top of the wall on a rope ladder. At this point, the teams would have a long, confusing walk through the streets of the old town to reach the plaza with the clue box. In Long and Short, the teams got on another zip line that terminated in the water of the harbor. They then swam a short distance to a floating platform where they got into rowboats. Teams then had to row a long distance around the harbor to reach a docking area where they could leave the boats. However, this area was very close to the final plaza destination with the next clue box. Ron and Christina decided to take the zip line/rowboat. They struggled a bit with the rowing and Ron was quickly fatigued and fussy. However, Christina took the second oar and with this teamwork they productively made their way around the harbor. Natennifer proceeded to the Detour relatively quickly and were not far behind Ron/Chris. However, their ongoing fight became much worse on the water. Rowing a boat can be a difficult, grueling task, folks. I’d recommend all potential future AR contestants learn the basics of this process. Natennifer fought the whole way around the harbor, slowing their progress considerably. At one point, Jennifer kept repeating “I hate you!” Meanwhile, the lovey-dovey Goths (featuring a warm weather stripped-down Vyxsin) decided on the Short/Long path and proceeded to rappel and climb the ladder to the start of their long cross-town trek. Despite their argument, Nathan & Jennifer actually made it to the end of the boat ride just behind Ronald & Christina and found the clue box first. The next clue directed racers to take a taxi to the next pit stop adjacent to a large stone cross on the top of a nearby peak. Natennifer started getting into a cab. However, the driver saw that they were wet (from the rowing) and refused to take them – picky folks sometimes in E. Europe. This set-back drove the already fuming Jennifer out of her mind. She ran around screaming and yelling at Nate. Meanwhile, Ron and Christina got their clue and quickly snagged a cab and were on their way. They arrived at the top of the mountain and had to climb up a steep stairway lined with men in archaic military outfits. Up near the top, one of these guys shot off a big musket as the teams reached the end of this gauntlet! This was one of the best pit stop receptions in AR history and a dramatic location for the mat on the top of this peak overlooking the beautiful Adriatic. Ron and Christina – like the rest of the teams following them - just about jumped out of their clothes when this gun went off! However, they quickly recovered and jumped together on the mat in first place. Phil informed them that their #1finish would be rewarded by a catamaran. Nice! Meanwhile a distraught Jennifer pleaded with a local guy to drive them up to the pit stop area. He agreed and they quickly arrived at the top in his car. After their near miss with the musketeer, Phil informed them that this free car ride from a private individual was not allowed since the clue specified taking a cab. They would have to return to the last clue box and complete the final task correctly. They were not amused but quickly returned to the clue box plaza and got a cab. However, at this point the Goths had finished their Detour and were on the way up the hill to the pit stop. They arrived second at the mat with a wet/nasty Natennifer getting yet another gun salute close behind them for third. TK and Rachel had arrived in Dubrovnik on their afternoon flight and made their way to the course. They completed the Detour alone and arrived at the mat in fourth place. Then Nick/Don (just ahead) and A+H, arrived in town on two separate late afternoon flights. Nick and Don struggled with the rowing task mainly due to Goofus making his grandfather do the work again while he sat back, enjoyed the scenery and complained. Azaria & Hendekea were not that far behind and both teams were on the water at the same time with Azaria really digging in to the oars and closing the gap on Nick/Don. At this point, Nick began to row and they did manage to stay ahead of Azaria & Hendekea up to the docking area. Nick and Don had difficulty finding the clue box which further slowed them down. However, they did manage to grab a cab slightly ahead of Azaria & Hendekea and beat them to the mat for fifth. Azaria & Hendekea arrived shortly afterwards and with a gorgeous sunset behind them were given the bad news that their last place finish had eliminated them from the race. |
| In Short & Long, teams had to rappel down the wall of Fort Bokar and then scale it again by rope ladder. Then, they had to make their way by foot to the plaza with the clue box. For this option, the physical toil was shorter, but it was a longer distance to the plaza with the clue box, therefore having greater potential for teams to get lost. Kynt & Vyxsin and TK & Rachel chose the task. In Long & Short, teams were to take a tandem zipline down into the bay and swim to waiting floating platforms before choosing a fishing boat that they would row around the city walls. They would eventually arrive at a marked docking area where they tied off their boats before making their way to the same plaza. For this option, the physical work was much longer and requiring endurance, but there was a much shorter distance to the plaza, making it a straightforward path. Ronald & Christina, Nathan & Jennifer, Nicolas & Donald and Azaria & Hendekea chose the task. |

| Best use of strategy: Hardly any real strategizing went on in this leg save for the frantic rush for flights. Perhaps just as a good measure was the move by Ronald and Christina, who reserved their tickets at a hotel before coming to the airport, avoiding the rush and anxiety of trying to shove onto a flight with a ticket agent at the office opening (which, in this case, was relatively close to the actual takeoff time of the best planes). Helpers: Although father and daughter Ronald and Christina gave siblings Azaria and Hendekea information about the Polish Air flight that they had reserved, the well-intentioned clue actually caused problems and a confrontation between the brother and sister because they had lost their place in the Czech Air line to try and make a call to Polish Air (LOT Polish Airlines). Schemers: Biggest comeback: Most teams stayed in a basic outline for positioning through this leg from their arrival in Croatia to the pit stop at the Stone Cross. Team to watch next week: Noted in the preview was a blowup in the car between Kynt and Vyxsin, who, up until this point, had been as collected and full of good chemistry as TK and Rachel. |

Ron, stop all the winning and complaining. You should be ashame of yourself treating your beautiful daughter like that. Show a little bit of respect for your daughter and a little maturity for yourself. I have never seen a grown man cry as much as you. GROW UP!

The teams are now traveling to Dubrovnik, Croatia and once again, the teams are in hot pursuit to catch the earliest and fastest flight to get there. Azaria & Hendekea got the worst luck by being booked in business seats by accident instead of economy. At this point, I was getting the feel they could be eliminated by not being able to catch up.
Once in Croatia, some teams were able to prevail and strive ahead. I have to say I was impressed with Ronald & Christina, they did a great job and seem to be improving in their relationship each leg. I was not impressed however with Nathan & Jennifer. They need to keep this bickering under control or they'll just self-destruct even more. Frankly, I don't have much hope their relationship will survive after the race. Ronald & Christina propelled ahead and got in first place at the Pit Stop, winning a catamaran. But unfortunately for Azaria & Hendekea, they were never able to fully catch up and were the sixth team eliminated from the race. It really was because of that mistake with the wrong flight booking, so I really don't have any feelings about them leaving. Well, that about does it. I'm excited to see what happens next, see you next episode! |
