| This was another outstanding leg in what is shaping up to be a great AR season. Finally we got out of Africa as Azaria and Hendekea opened their clue at 6:45 AM instructing them to travel to Vilnius, Lithuania. The other teams quickly followed and everyone bunched up at the Ouagadougou airport. Teams were instructed to buy tickets only from official ticket offices and these were supposedly not open yet. Some teams got on the Internet to research flights. Ron and Christina decided to taxi over to a nearby storefront Air France ticket office - which turned out to be open. Unfortunately, Ron’s bizarre controlling behavior (which had been on hold or edited out last week) resurfaced again. As Christina attempted to communicate w/ the French-speaking ticket agent, Ron kept up a constant harangue of abuse and bad advice. In the end this led to their making a somewhat poor decision being the only team on the worst available flight to Vilinus. Meanwhile, the other teams arrived at this office and another Air France office in the airport. There was an extended ticket-purchasing drama that ended up being much ado about nothing. All teams ended up on the only daily flight to Paris leaving that night at 10:45PM (!) and then on various early afternoon flights the next day from Paris to Vilinus via Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Prague with less than an hour between the various arrival times. Nick proved to be particularly dumb and incompetent during this process. Also, during this stressful 30+ hour travel day, tension between the Blondes increased as they argued about their bad decision on the U-turn in previous episode. The first teams - Natennifer, the Blondes and A+H - arrived in Vilnius at 1:25PM the following day. They were instructed to find marked cars in the airport parking lot and drive themselves to the St Ann’s Church. Natennifer found their car and sped away. However, the Blondes (insert Blonde joke here) and A+H wandered around unable to find the parking lot. Meanwhile, the next 1:35PM flight arrived bearing TK+Rachel, the Goths and Nick/Gramps. They all found their cars and left the airport as the prior teams also completed this part of the task. Then at 2:10 PM, Ron and Christina arrived on their flight and quickly headed out of the airport. They pulled a classic AR move in getting a taxi driver to lead them to the Church. This proved to be quite smart as due to confusing map/directions and general stupidity (or perhaps coming off of a 30 hour travel day), many of the other teams had real problems finding this location – and the Blondes almost never make it! Nick and Gramps were the first team to arrive at the church and found the clue box. Opening the clue revealed a Roadblock requiring one member of the team to collect a parcel (small basket) from a local woman in the Church area and get directions from her to deliver this to another specific party at a nearby location. This person would in turn give the racer a second parcel and second person/location for delivery. This final person would provide the next clue. At first it seemed that Nick was going to make Gramps do another Roadblock (what a jerk!) but in the end he decided to do it himself. In this task, he emerged as a real whiny Millenial doofus. He found his first person but then fell apart and Gramps had to sit back and watch every other team complete this task as Nick wandered around aimlessly complaining and unable to find a nearby beauty parlor for his final delivery. Natennifer got so lost driving around Vilinus that they simply gave up and parked their car. They ended up getting directions and running 20 min on foot to the Church. Tensions between the two of them really increased during this process. The Blondes, also carrying on a nasty running argument, seemed to be aimlessly driving around the Lithuanian countryside. At one point, Jennifer Blonde began backing up their car (without looking) directly into the path of an oncoming tour bus! After no doubt pausing to allow the cameraman to change his shorts, they continued on, finally got directions and were the last team to arrive at the church.. The Goths’ Kynt quickly finished the “delivery” roadblock and they were the first to receive the next clue. This directed the teams to drive to the Leituvos Liaudies Buities Muziejus in the town of Rumsiskes! Yow! Phil helpfully explained that this was an outdoor museum. TK used his Hippy powers again, this time instantly befriending a local Lithuanian Hippy bro who helped him to find the locations for his delivery tasks – finishing in 2nd place with a herniated, limping Ron (he’s a crazy nasty old guy but bless his heart!) close behind. Hendekea and Nate finished the task quickly also – while Nick continued to wander around whining. The arrival of the Blondes at the Church apparently woke him up and he found his last location but still finished in last place (after starting first) just after Shana. Both teams sped off for the next route marker in a race to stay out of last place. The Goths arrived first at the museum complex to find that the next clue described a task and a Detour. The team had to first search the area for a Travelocity gnome (hidden among a hundred or so other gnome statues) and then follow a marked path to the detour area. The Detour tasks were Count Down or Step Up. Count Down required the teams to count the pickets in a long wooden picket fence while Step Up required the teams to walk a rather long stretch of a paved path on a pair of stilts. Both of these tasks had to be done in a raucous atmosphere surrounded by crowds of costumed, masked revelers at the Midsummer festival going on in the Museum grounds. Kynt and Vyxsin felt right at home in this atmosphere and commented about how great it was. It was a gorgeous location with Old World farm buildings and cottages set in a beautiful verdant countryside. Lithuania certainly looks like an interesting and beautiful country – another great choice for an AR leg! The Goths quickly found their gnome and moved on to the detour location followed close behind by TK/Rachel and Ron and Christina. The Goths at first decided to try the stilts – which certainly seemed like more fun. However, this proved to be a difficult task as the distance required was rather long and if the racer fell/feet touched the ground in any way they had to go back to the beginning. Furthermore, the stilt walkers were surrounded by wild singing, dancing, partying (drunk?) locals. However, again showing the value of his awesome Hippy Powers – TK finished the stilt walking task easily and then encouraged Rachel to prevail also. Who knew stilt walking, bro be-friending and camel whispering would be so important? The other teams better pray there is not a hacky sack Roadblock in the future or I think TK/Rachel will have this AR sowed up! The stilts were a problem for the Goths and decided to bail and count pickets. They were smart and mentally marked some milestones along the way (i.e 400 pickets, etc). Although they did start over once, they finished the count quickly with the correct number (717) just after Rachel completed the stilt walk. The next clue instructed racers to run on foot to the pit stop located at a beautiful old windmill on the museum grounds. TK and Rachel had a slight lead on the Goths and arrived first at the mat for a very well deserved win for this leg of the race. Phil informed them that their first place finish would be rewarded by a Travelocity trip to Japan – Super Sweet! Meanwhile, Ron + Christina decided to do the seductively fun and easy looking stilt run. Christina finished up relatively quickly. However, as you might imagine, between exhaustion and his hernia issues, Ron had a lot of difficulty with this task. He fell again and again and then basically got down to the very end - within 5 feet of the “finish line” - and had a spectacular fall onto his face right in front of a horrified Christina. This made for one of the more dramatic commercial breaks in AR history. When we came back, Ron had gotten back up on his stilts and he somehow managed to struggle all the way, basically falling across the finish line to complete the task. Its “Amazing” what the race brings out in people and his outstanding effort allowed the team to move on and arrive third at the mat. Azaria & Hendekea decided to count pickets and, using their engineering smarts, quickly completed this task and went on to a fourth place finish. Nathan & Jennifer struggled with the counting task mainly due to their constant violent bickering. However, at this point some of the wild revelers were lurking around the fence and distracting the counters. At one point, Nate exploded in frustration calling Jennifer a “bitch”. Well, I think he was actually on to something there but this was probably not the best time to bring it up and this sealed their fate at counting pickets. They decided to give the stilts a try and in fact did much better at this non-mental task leading to a fifth place finish as Nick/Gramps and the Blondes arrived at the Museum. The Blondes’ battle was at a fever pitch and they fought the entire way to the mat. Nick and Gramps struggled with the counting task having to repeat it several times before finally getting the correct value and arriving at the mat in 6th place. The Blondes really fell apart and continued to fight as they vainly attempted to count the pickets. They eventually made it to the mat to be informed of their last place finish and elimination from the race. It was a nasty spectacle watching this team self destruct over the past two legs. These supposed “beauties” got progressively uglier as the race went on. Natennifer looks to be the next team to self destruct. They fought basically the entire leg this time and the coming attractions for next week shows this battle continuing and worsening in the next leg. |
| Count Down: Teams made their way through the traditional Mid-Summer's Festival to a marked section of picket fence. Once there, they had to count every picket that makes up the fence and then reveal their calculation to a villager. If they were correct, they would receive their next clue. Kynt & Vyxsin, Azaria & Hendekea, Nathan & Jennifer, Nicolas & Donald, and Shana & Jennifer chose their task. Step Up: Teams had to stilt-walk along a marked course to the finish line. If a person fell off before reaching the end, that person had to go back to the beginning and start again. When they reached the end, they would receive their next clue. TK & Rachel, and Ronald & Christina and did this task. |
| One Team member had to choose a local Lithuanian woman working outdoors who would give them a package and tell them where to take it. Then, traveling on foot through the confusing streets of the Old Town, Team members had to deliver the package to the correct person, who would then hand them their second package and one of four final destinations. Nicolas, Kynt, Hendekea, Ronald, TK, Jennifer (of Nathan & Jennifer) & Shana performed their task. |
| Best use of strategy: Nick & Don, who counted the fence posts in countdown even though they were not supposed to, subtracted and correctly guessed 117. Giving them a lead over Shana & Jennifer. Helpers: Schemers: Shana & Jennifer, who tried to push other teams out of the ticket booth. Biggest comeback: TK and Rachel rose from last place to first place. Team to watch next week: Azaria & Hendekea |
Mini-Scorecard | 1st Place: TK & Rachel Eliminated: Shana & Jennifer |

A rumour is going around school that there was an Unaired Unused Fast Forward in this leg of the race. If so then everyone did a great job of hiding it. If not I would like to know. I'll be doing my own reseach but let me know if you find anything.

Now as the teams set out to Lithuania, the teams seem to have become more bitter towards one another. It's because Shana & Jennifer used the U-Turn on the last leg which resulted in Lorena & Jason's elimination. I think Shana & Jennifer are the big targets right now to get eliminated, and rightfully so. It was too early for them to use the U-Turn.
We also saw Nicolas & Donald's troubles with getting the best flight to Lithuania, as they had an unhelpful receptionist. Also Shana & Jennifer are getting at each other's necks. I have noticed a lot of hostility this leg, the competition is definitely heating up. The Roadblock consisted of delivering packages to locations around a small town. This definitely set Nicolas & Donald back and forced them to play catch-up. The Detour came up next, and the choice to either balance on stilts or counting pickets on a fence. We again saw major friction between Nathan & Jennifer and I think it's only going to get worse. They seem like one of those constant bickering couples. We also saw Ronald take a beating on the stilts, but still pushed on. T.K. & Rachel propelled ahead to first place at the Pit Stop and won a 10 day trip to Japan. Then in the end, karma from the U-Turn came back to bite Shana & Jennifer as they became the fifth team eliminated from the race. Can't say I'm sad to see them go though. How will this affect the race? We'll watch to find out, see you next week! |
