Leg #6: Maputo, Mozambique to Zanzibar, Tanzania
Episode Title: We're Going to Trade You for Food Now - by Oswald

Air Date: March 25, 2007

The Amazing Race | Route MarkersEpisode Recap:
By breaking away from other Teams in the Maputo airport cousins Charla & Mirna earned a huge lead landing in Tanzania and sailing to island of Zanzibar to claim a second victory in a row. Meanwhile, the airport turned into a nightmare for three stranded Teams who fell over half a day behind resulting in the elimination of married parents Teri & Ian.

The Amazing Race | DetourDetour:
Solve It: In Solve It, Teams had to make their way one third of a mile to the hotel known as Beyt al Chai where they would put together a 62-piece puzzle that recreates an image from a style of local artwork known as Tinga Tinga. Teri & Ian, Charla & Mirna, Uchenna & Joyce, Joe & Bill, Oswald & Danny and Eric & Danielle opted to solve the Detour.

Schlep it: In Schlep It, Teams made their way one mile to the Kijangwani Lumber Yard. Once there, they had to choose a local handcart and load two 50-pound logs into their cart. The uniquely shaped logs are highly sought after for use in the construction of the native dhow. Once loaded, Teams had to travel more than a mile to deliver the logs to a shipyard. Only Dustin & Kandice chose to schlep through this challenge.
The Amazing Race | RoadblockRoadblock: Who's On Target?
In this Roadblock, one Team member had to learn how to use a traditional wooden weapon, called a Rungu, used by members of the Maasai Tribe by throwing it 65 feet to destroy one of these clay targets in order to retrieve their next clue from inside. Mirna, Danny, Uchenna, Dustin, Danielle, Bill and Ian performed the Roadblock.
Best use of strategy: Charla & Mirna taking a risk and making the first flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Helpers: Oswald & Danny help Charla when she got sick on the ferry ride.

Schemers:

Biggest comeback: Uchenna & Joyce thanks to a horrible airport shuffle.

Team to watch next week: Joe & Bill (they're a half-day behind, can they catch up?), Charla & Mirna (Man, they're on fire!).

Quotes: As Charla & Mirna get their #1 tag for the boat ride, "Where the heck is everybody else?"

BillsBayou I Smell A Rat (or two) On The Production Team 18 Apr 1 2007, 11:06 PM EDT by kajudalu

Rat Number 1:
I have a feeling that Charla and Mirna were given the shaft by the production team because they were about to run away with the race. They showed up at the boats with such a fantastic lead that there was a chance they'd have had more than a 24 hour lead on the last place teams. I suspect it would have been more than 36 hours, actually. THUS I smelled a rat when the ferries were delayed for the weather. Isn't that just TOO convienient for the show! When the trailing teams came in as late as they did, there was no delay in getting them across the ferry. Midnight crossings were nothing to the ferrymen, but a "chance" of rain was?

Ok, granted, it would have made for a boring next couple months as TAR becomes The Amazing Charla and Myrna show. It would have been a logistical nightmare for Phil to be there at the mat in two different cities. But all of that is besides the point. Lay down the rules and don't interfere with "weather delays" just because one team is running away with the race!

Rat #2:
Team Guido would have had the distinction of becoming the only team to be 1 full day behind TWICE! As some of you long time watchers may remember, they were left out in the cold in Alaska as they came in third place (I like to refer to it as "lost") in the first season of TAR. In that season, they fell behind by a full 24 hours. Funny stuff for a mean spirited team. ENTER THE PRODUCTION RAT. Eric and Danielle were kicked off the plane. Yes, the flight attendant said they had been sold someone else's seats, but I like to believe that the production crew threw a wrench into their plans. Having two teams 24 hours or more behind the leaders would have been two much as one of them would have been eliminated (most likely Terri and Ian) and Team Guido would have been the one team at 24 hours behind the lead AGAIN! So the Rat bumps Eric and Danielle to put three teams in last place.

Yes, it's a conspiracy theory, but the Rat is there, I say!

BillsBayou How Big A Lead Does Charla and Myrna Have Over Joe and Bill? 10 Mar 31 2007, 3:06 AM EDT by tarrules

I can't wait until next week to see the departure times of the teams. Anyone want to make a guess as to the time span? I'm betting that Phil had already said goodbye to Charla and Myrna BEFORE Joe and Bill checked in (nevermind saying goodbye to Terri and Ian).

I think they have a 14 hour lead. Anyone want in on the betting pool?
