Leg #5: Ushuaia, Argentina, to Maputo, Mozambique
Episode Title: You Need To Watch Your Jokes, Guy - by Bill
Air Date: March 18, 2007  Episode Recap: One leg after bumping off heavyweights Rob & Amber, cousins Charla & Mirna continued their strong performance by soaring to victory as teams traveled to Maputo, Mozambique. Meanwhile, Joe butted heads with Eric over an unwelcomed joke while a laborious coal task that caused Uchenna & Joyce, now "marked for elimination", to finish in last place. | ||

 Detour: Pamper: In Pamper, teams had to travel half a mile to the Maputo Central Market, choose a nail polish kit and convince people to pay them to paint their nails, which in Maputo is a job usually performed by men. Teams needed to earn at least 30 metecais, about one U.S. dollar, to receive their next clue. Charla & Mirna, Dustin & Kandice and Teri & Ian performed this Detour. Porter: In Porter, Teams made their way two miles to Market de Janet, where they would use their bare hands to fill 10 large 45-pound bags with coal, and sew each of them shut. Then Teams had to carry one of the ten heavy bags to a specified address where the owner would hand them their next clue. Joe & Bill, Oswald & Danny, Eric & Danielle and Uchenna & Joyce performed this Detour. | ||
 Roadblock: In this Roadblock, one Team member had to use a rat to find a race marker above a deactivated mine. In this country, once overrun by Guerilla warfare, trained rats actually save lives on a daily basis by locating leftover land mines. Once their rat gave the signal that it found something, an Apopo Mine Technician would search the area. When the Race marker was found the Team would receive their clue. Joe, Eric, Oswald, Charla, Ian, Dustin and Uchenna performed Roadblock. | ||
| Best use of strategy: All teams for nagging the 9:50 flight to Mozambique instead of the 3:00 flight in the afternoon. Helpers: Oswald & Danny for using Spanish to quickly book earlier flights for them and Teri and Ian. Schemers: Eric trying to get under the Guido's skin, and it's working! Biggest comeback: Charla & Mirna. After being in the back of the pack for the past 4 legs, they hit their peak and landed their first ever 1st place finish on the race. Team to watch next week: Uchenna & Joyce (can they overcome a possible 30-minute penalty?), Charla & Mirna (last to first. Wow!), Joe & Bill, Eric & Danielle. Quotes: "I'm gonna smell like a French whore, but that doesn't matter to me." The Guidos, freshening up in the duty free shop. "I'm glad there are metrosexuals all over the world," Mirna. "Pretty in pink, in Mozambique," Phil to the Beauty Queens as they reach the pitstop. "Danielle, I have a coal thing on my back. I can't run!" Eric. "I'm hugginh you"! --Oswald

After years of watching the game be manipulated so the most interesting teams would not be eliminated, or to keep the race close until the very end, last week the producers allowed Rob and Amber to be emilimiated. I stupidly thought the producers decided to keep their hands off this season, and just have each last place team eliminated. Why else would they possibly allow one of the best and most interesting teams to be eliminated? Well, tonight we watched, and were shocked to see that the producers are again fixing the show for U & Joyce. What a joke! Last time, if the producers had not intervened, Rob and Amber would have won by a mile. Now, they cheat for them again. Rob and Amber were far more interesting, if they are gone, so should U & Joyce. I am sorry, but tonight was the last episode I will ever watch. The favoritism is so blatant, I am just disgusted.

Rob and Amber were clearly mistreated by a air flight the first time and now Uchenna & Joyce were not elimated??? I may not ever watch the amazing race again.
