Dream trip:

Description of my trip: London; Bayeux, France; Innsbruck, Austria; Rome, Italy; Athens, Greece; Sofia, Bulgaria; Budapest, Hungary

Favorite memories:
London - Everything!!!!!
Bayeaux, France & D-Day Beaches - Learning a new meaning to the word "pardon", the reality of what American and allied soldiers did on D-Day at the cemetery; walking on Omaha Beach. Doing laundry with a couple from Tacoma.
Paris - The adventure of arriving at midnight and trying to find our way to our overpriced hotel. Being an "ugly American" to an obnoxious Parisian woman who would not help us find Est train station, though once I reminded her that if America had not had joined WWII she would probably be speaking German, she showed us to the train station. The nice German lady at the train station who gave my son a new pack of Yu-Gi-Oh cards
Innsbruck - The beautiful train ride from Zurich to Innsbruck. The amazing water in the river there. The best spaghetti we ate on our entire trip.
Rome - Getting lost and found. The colosseum and forum. The overnight ferry from Bari to Patras. Gelato.
Athens - Greek salads, ice and milkshakes at McDonalds. Walking past our hotel for an hour before we realized it was a hotel.
Sofia - Our first difficult border crossing. Our Bulgarian and Russian friends, Nina and Nadia who helped us find our hostel. Finding a Kentucky Fried Chicken and drinks with more ice than drink. The Bakalite (probably mispelled that). Walking around the city and realizing how fortunate we are to live in America. The open market and eating fresh strawberries.
Budapest - Maria and Istevan's apartment!!! The Grand Market and the delicious pastries we bought. The train museum and our certificate for doing the hand car (this was on one of the ARs). Castle Hill. Walking along the river. The train ride to Paris from Budapest was wild. With the World Cup in Germany, the trains were packed but we met a guy from Mexico City who is studying in Paris with whom we had a great discussion with about Mexican food.

Unexpected detours: The 26 hour train ride from Sofia to Budapest and spending 10 hours in the station at Belgrade, Serbia because of Bulgarian and Serbian politics. We made the best of being accidental tourists and enjoyed a few hours in the city.

Roadblocks: None worth mentioning because they are all part of the adventure.

I'll never forget: Thinking that we were lost only to find a place that we did not realize we were looking for. We saw ancient history and history in the making. Neither of us will ever forget our trip. Though we saw the major tourist sites, our fondest memories are of the people and the quiet moments.

Photos/Videos: Forthcoming.
